A Story About the Amazing Grace Jones & Her Healing Journey of Colon Cancer and Reiki During Surgery

While sitting a table with my sister at what I was told was a health fair in mid-September, we met a truly amazing woman. As it turned out, this was clearly not a health fair and Grace Jones was the only person to stop and talk with my sister and I that day. One might think that it was just a silly coincidence, but I’m not a believer in coincidence. In my heart, I know that we were meant to meet that day, and I’m so grateful we did.

Grace stopped to comment on how she loved my black shirt with purple butterflies on it… sharing with me that purple is her favorite color too. As she looked at the things on my table that I was selling, she asked some questions about Reiki and the crystal healing pouches I had created. This quickly transpired into what seemed like a conversation with an old friend, and she shared with me her story of having been diagnosed with colon cancer and that the surgery was scheduled for the end of the month. This is a story that Grace had decided not to even share with her family. I felt honored that she felt comfortable enough to shared her story with me. In talking with Grace, I quickly got a sense of her soul, listening to the incredible amount of positivity that came through to me in talking about her life while speaking with her.

Thinking back to the diagnosis of cancer that came to me in my life, I remember the vast array of emotions that flooded me daily, none of which were positive or even remotely healthy for me. But the woman standing before me exuded strength, positivity, love and such light. Simply by the way she spoke, and the passion for life in her voice, I might never have known what she was going through had she not told me. I could feel the brightest light in her soul. Even while speaking about her diagnosis, she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was going to find the rainbow at the end of it all, and come out an even stronger and brighter Grace than before. What a truly amazing woman, and I feel blessed to now call her my friend.

A few days after meeting Grace, she called to talk with me about Medical Reiki and asked about all of the healing benefits of Reiki before, during and after surgery. Grace asked that I Reiki her during her surgery, and I felt honored to be a part of this beautiful woman’s healing journey. I immediately sent a post to all of my Certified Medical Reiki Master sisters to be with us on Graces surgery day in spirit with healing and thoughts of love and light. Due to the short notice, I would not be able to be physically in the operating room with her, but we planned a two hour Reiki session for during her surgery, and I provided a Reiki drip for the next few hours after her surgery so that she could hopefully be out of recovery quickly and find herself in her balloon filled hospital room resting and beginning to heal. Prior to her surgery, Grace arranged for herself, a room that would look and feel like a celebration was happening while she was there. This is how Grace lived her life and it shined through at every turn. Even after her surgery, she wanted to be able to see fun things of light and happiness surrounding her while healing in her hospital room.

Grace had given her daughter my phone number so that we could touch base after her surgery and I was so happy to hear all of the updates of her miraculous milestones after each day had passed. After a few days, Grace was emailing me herself with wonderful updates on how she felt, and completely back to her true and happy self. Three weeks later, Grace and I met up for brunch and boy did she look absolutely stunning. Again, with such light in her heart, I would have never guessed all she had been through because this beautiful woman was just glowing. And this to me speaks volumes of her person. I learned that day, that she, like most of us has a story with some less than wonderful things that she’s endured in her life. Sitting across from me was this amazing Grace, who through her own trials and tribulations in life, would not let any of that darkness penetrate into the light of her mind, body and soul. In fact, to celebrate life in the upcoming weeks, she had planned an amazing trip to London with her daughter. Such an amazing soul she is… truly an inspiration to me!

Grace, I thank you for allowing me to be a part of and share the story of your healing journey after your cancer diagnosis and surgery. It is my hope that everyone, including myself will realize life’s many blessings around us, and continue to see that we all have bumps in the road of life. It is truly how you handle those bumps that makes all the difference in our lives. From the little bit I’ve learned about Grace, I know that she continuously sees the light of the sunshine, even through the rain. This my dears, is truly living life and what life is all about. If we all learned to do this, the world would most certainly be a brighter place. Grace, to me, you are and will always be Amazing Grace, and I feel blessed to know you. xoxo

This is the healing time period recap post that I sent to all of my Certified Medical Reiki Master sisters who sent their love and light to everyone involved in Grace’s surgery:

Thanks for all of the thoughts sent our way while I did distant Reiki for a truly inspirational woman of positivity having had colon cancer surgery. I wanted to share a wonderful recap of miraculous healing. Post Surgery I received reports from her daughter that her surgery was a success. On day 3, Grace emailed me while in the hospital of doing well and in great spirits. On day 4, Grace hit all milestones and would be released the next day. She reports of doing great and to the surprise of all doctors on her healing progress. On day 6, she reports no pain from surgery – only back pain from the awful hospital bed. On day 10, Grace is well enough to go to the beach to heal in her happy place, and reports of getting stronger every day. On day 12 she met with her doctor to receive the news that the surgery revealed stage 2 colon cancer. They got it all out and it had not spread, so no radiation or chemotherapy needed. She reports that she’s healing very nicely and feeling great! Her body is functioning back to normal and her appetite is good! I feel truly blessed to receive such fabulous news as well as to have been able to support her in this journey of healing. Wanted to thank all of your for your thoughts of healing and support as well as deliver absolutely amazing news in healing.

Please share this story with anyone you know that it may help or could simply use a message of inspiration in their lives.

How to Prevent Colon Cancer Naturally

Cancer in any form is dreadful. Not only because the word itself terrorizes our mind, the visuals we recall are too scary. Once it sets in, it is very difficult to get rid of it in totality and one has to surrender to whatever treatment methods are available. Injuries to nearby organs, side-effects, trauma for the body and mind as a whole plus social stigma are some realities that stay with the victim for the rest of his/her life.

I can suggest three mantras: One, prevention is better than cure. Two, either you change your lifestyle, or make some necessary additions to counter the cancer threat. Three, try alternative medicines or therapies.

WHY GIVE OPTION ON LIFESTYLE?

If you belong to the western world, (as per Wikipedia) chances are that you are more susceptible of catching this type of cancer. But you cannot move to the other part of the world for only this reason. Moreover, how would you know for sure that you could be a victim? Only for this reason I mentioned that either you change your lifestyle or…

IS CHANGING LIFESTYLE EASY?

Definitely not. We are all part of a society and have our stated norms of behavior, work culture, food (solids & liquids) consumption pattern, ways of recreation are all set. To some extent we can change our habits like avoiding late nights, getting full sleep, exercising etc. But today’s expenses need extra work both physically and mentally. Somewhere we have to compromise which we cannot compensate with something beneficial.

A fully nourishing lunch induces sleep so some people either don’t have proper lunch, or combine it with coffee and both are harmful. Work pressure forces to go either for smoking, extra cups of coffee, or for over the counter pills as they are easily accessible. Even these have harmful after-effects.

WHAT COULD BE DONE HERE?

Remember Edison, who invented the Electric Bulb? He slept for just four hours and always got up refreshed. Develop a habit of sleeping less. Easier said than done, may be your answer. To counter I present two incidents.

1. I was working on a project and could not sleep for 3 days. The fourth evening, somehow I had to accompany my boss to an overnight musical concert. When we departed, I was totally refreshed and went back to office.

2. Many of my hostel friends developed the habit of sleeping at three in the morning to get up by seven. The same pattern holds good twenty years after passing out.

It is all in the mind. You can train it the way you want. Think about the soldiers at war zone or the police personnel who hardly get time to sleep. When these people can manage why can’t you? Try meditation, even a 30-minute trance is enough to compensate for a full night’s sleep.

HELP YOUR BOWEL DISCHARGE EASILY.

The most common cause for rectal/colon/anus cancer is constipation. Piles is the first reaction. Eat veggies or fruits that have roughage e.g. Carrot, Radish, Lettuce. Those veggies that do not dissolve in full. Eat fruits whole, as the skin acts as roughage. If not allergic to Banana, it acts as a good bowel cleaner.

Drink plenty of plain water (not disguised as beer or canned juices). Avoid the lift when possible.

Get the wonder product “Isabgol” which is neither a fruit nor vegetable nor a medicine. It is the husk of the Psyllium plant seed. This husk absorbs water, becomes slippery and aids bowel to discharge without pressure. You can consume this either with water, curd, fruit juice or sprinkle liberal amounts in any dish as it is tasteless.

TRY ALTERNATE THERAPIES

No system of medicine is foolproof. Doctors do not admit the fallacies. For example, Homoeopathy has no medicine for high blood pressure but works wonders for skin diseases. Colitis, skin ulcers, burns & wounds are treated in no time. It has no side-effects as well. Ready made mixtures are available over the counter for hundreds of diseases that you can try.

As always, there are no shortcuts to success. Trial and error should be your mantra. Find out what suits your body, your taste and let your mind guide you. After all if you catch the dreaded disease, your mind suffers the most.

What is Colocteral Cancer?

You have obviously heard about breast cancer, being the most famous type of cancer. Colorectal cancer, is also known as bowel cancer. It is the most common cancer affecting men, as compared to breast cancer affects women most. Like most cancers, early detection is extremely vital. This could mean a difference between a life saved and a life lost.

Colon cancer originates in the tissues of the longest part of the large intestine while rectal cancer is found in the tissues of the rectum. The colon makes up the first six feet of the large intestines. Meanwhile the rectum makes up the last six inches. Cancer begins with a growth, in this case. It is called polyp on the inner side of the colon. This polyp can range from the size of a pinhead to as large as a golf ball. Note that some polyps are benign (not deadly) while others are malignant (deadly and can cause death).

Who are at risk for this cancer? Although it is more prevalent in men statistically, it is imperative to know that everyone is at risk too. Majority of colon cancer sufferers have no known risk factors. Although experts are still uncertain of the exact cause of colon cancer, there are some factors that have been overruled and made official as signs for this colorectal disease. Note that like all cancers, our colon is also susceptible like other parts or organs of our body. We humans are still in the process of advancing towards better medical technologies.
